Tobago; Trinidad; Guiana; Venezuela; Brazil; Santiago-Zamora (''Oriente''): low plants on bank; stems red; leaves pale green above, paler below; peduncles bright red; perianths of both male and female flowers white; fruit pale yellow-cream with greenish tint, brown when mature; uplands just south of Rio Chupianza, valley of the Rio Upano, from the Rio Paute north ca. 17 km. to the Chupiangas, 1,950-2,200 ft., E-1442. Madagascar, Seychelles Islands, Reunion (introduced?). Sambirano: Nossi Be, near houses, Perrier de la Bathie 18708. Habitat: rocky places at low altitude; fl. Sept.
